Purpose

This tool mentor describes how to verify a web site, to make sure that there are no broken links, language is correct, etc.

Overview

  1. Check hyperlinks
  2. Check spelling
  3. Verify the treebrowser

Check hyperlinks

Using Microsoft« FrontPage« Explorer, use the command Tools>Verify Hyperlinks.... This will verify that there are no broken links left. Other test tools can be used instead of, or as a complement, to FrontPage.

Check spelling

Using Microsoft« FrontPage« Explorer, use the command Tools>Spelling.... to automatically check the spelling.

Verify the treebrowser

The treebrowser is described in the file 'tree.dat', which is in the 'applet/tree.zip'. The treebrowser can be verified automatically. When you generate a new Process Overview Table (See Tool Mentor: Using the Rational Unified Process Tools), this is done with the applet/tree.dat file as input. This means that the Process Overview Table will have the hyperlinks that are in the "tree.dat" file.

  1. Generate a new Process Overview Table.
  2. Use the Microsoft« FrontPage« Explorer to verify the hyperlinks, Tools>Verify Hyperlinks...
  3. Check for broken links in the file "sitemap/sitemap.htm". If there are any broken links in that file, it means that there are broken links in the tree.dat file.
